Firm Trainees Trainee Reviews

Our trainees share their experiences so far:

Heather McKirdy - Second Year Trainee

When choosing my traineeship it was important to know I was entering a learning environment. I wanted to be sure that the support to allow me to progress was available and importantly that I wasn't competing with the other trainees. I am delighted to say that Bell & Scott provide this environment. The first few months of my traineeship was the sharpest learning curve I have experienced, however once I began to grasp the work the satisfaction was rewarding.

Commercial Property is what Bell & Scott do, from acquisition to leasing and litigation. The firm is busy with quality work. Our reputation and commitment to the industry has been recognised by the multiple awards that we have won since I have been here. Responsibility is given early but always with the knowledge that help, no matter what the question is, is always there. Staff, at all levels, find the time to guide you.

Jennifer Burton - Second Year Trainee

Although Bell & Scott is synonomous with property throughout the legal profession, for anyone who seeks a commercial traineeship, Bell & Scott will provide all of the key skills and experiences required.

The focus of the firm is team work and hence the firm is divided into various departments. The first seat of my traineeship is Retail and Leisure. The work within the department is varied and fast paced. Like all of the teams within the firm they provide a support network while you are learning the skills of the profession. You receive input and have interaction from the whole team including the Partner with they help they provide proving invaluable especially within the first three months.

The support continues throughout the firm with much needed assistance from IT regularly. During the two years you are assigned a mentor with whom you meet with once a month and are given the opportunity to express any concerns you may have.

The firm has a keen social element and you are encouraged to join in and feel part of the firm striaight away. One of the first tasks levelled at you as a new trainee is organise the Christmas night out, together with the second years. For this the old saying definitely runs true, "you can never please everyone". However, this has given me the opportunity to interact with staff in different departments early on and it very much gives you a sense of involvement.

At present Bell & Scott are very much a firm on the move. Our recent merger with Clairmonts means we now have an office in Glasgow, expanding our presence and client base in the West. Despite the recent changes within the firm its core values remain with the Partners taking an active interest in finding out how you are settling in and progressing within the firm.

Nicola Davey - Second Year Trainee

From the start of your traineeship with Bell & Scott you are given a lot of responsibility. Although this can be daunting the strong emphasis on teamwork and support within the Firm means you can always ask questions and get straightforward answers from all members of the firm.

Although specialised, you'll find that you will gain a lot of experience in a number of area wihtin the Commercial Property sphere. A trainee's exposure to high profile clients is almost immediate and our cntribution is always appreciated.
